Hints and tips to consider
when planning your interior design project
To get the most out of your time with a colour consultant or
interior designer, you'll need to do some homework to ensure your
home and space works for you and reaches its full potential.
First of all be clear about what
you want your consultant to provide for you and determine how much
help you need. Is it simply choosing paint colours or do you
need help with the whole scheme from selecting laminates and stone
to carpet and accessories?
Start a scrapbook of all your
ideas. Collect clippings of favourite schemes, an object d’art, a
favourite piece of fabric or even a piece of china. All these
things that you love will form a basis for the consultant to build
around.
Don’t be afraid to use colour.
Provided it is used in the correct proportion it can look
stunning.
Don’t worry that your budget
doesn't allow for a complete change as consultants can work with
existing flooring and furniture, etc.
Don’t expect the consultant to
come up with a solution on the spot. On most occasions, one or two
schemes may be presented to you after the initial consultation.
Do discuss the final scheme with
other family members sharing the space. Everyone must be happy with
the outcome.
